Epoxy Mold Layout Template - Clear Acrylic

This clear acrylic Layout Template is designed to help with the full workflow of making epoxy boards in reusable molds. Use it before your pour to lay out your wood, mark your cut lines, and plan your board placement before adding the wood into an Empire Mold, Silicone Mold, or NO SEAL Mold.

After your epoxy project has cured and comes out of the mold, the same layout template can also be used as a router guide to flush trim the final piece to size. This makes it a practical tool for anyone making epoxy charcuterie boards, serving boards, trays, river-style boards, or other poured resin projects where consistent sizing and clean edges matter.

What You Can Make With This Layout Template

This template is a great fit for wood and epoxy projects where you want better control over your layout before the pour and a cleaner finished size after the project cures.

  • Epoxy charcuterie boards
  • Resin serving boards
  • Wood and epoxy cheese boards
  • River-style board projects
  • Live edge wood and epoxy boards
  • Small tray-style epoxy projects
  • Repeatable mold-based projects for small shops and makers

Why Use a Clear Acrylic Layout Template?

Clear acrylic makes it easier to see your wood underneath while you plan the layout. This is especially helpful when working with live edge wood, figured grain, knots, epoxy colour, sapwood, heartwood, and other natural details you may want to feature in the final board.

The layout markings also help you locate points on the board if you are adding an engraving, logo, handle detail, or another design element. Instead of guessing where everything will land, you can plan the project before it goes into the mold and then use the template again after curing to trim the piece cleanly to its final size.

How This Template Works With Epoxy Molds

The layout templates are intentionally sized smaller than the matching mold sizes. This allows you to flush trim approximately 1/8" off each side after the epoxy has cured, helping clean up the edges and bring the final piece to size.

This is especially useful because epoxy projects often have small edge imperfections, overflow, or slight irregularities after coming out of the mold. Using a layout template with a flush trim router bit gives you a simple way to clean up the final profile.

Recommended Products to Use With This Layout Template

For best results, pair this layout template with the right mold, accessories, wood, and router bit for your epoxy project:

  • Empire Molds - Reusable HDPE resin molds for epoxy board projects.
  • Silicone Molds - Flexible molds for epoxy pouring and resin projects.
  • NO SEAL Molds - Reusable HDPE forms for epoxy pours without needing to seal the mold before use.
  • Template Tape - Use this to secure the acrylic layout template to your project when flush trimming or tracing.
  • Flush Trim Plunge Bit - Used for cutting the first profile pass when routing template shapes.
  • UltraTrim Spiral Flush Trim Bit - Great for following the acrylic template and cleaning up the final outside profile.
  • Dimensional Wood - A great option for square edge epoxy boards and serving board projects.
  • Live Edge Wood - Ideal for epoxy boards where you want natural grain, shape, and character.
  • Grand Finishing Hardwax Oil - A great finish choice for charcuterie boards, serving boards, and display pieces that will not be cut on.

How to Use This Layout Template

This template can be used at two key stages of the epoxy board process: before the pour and after the project comes out of the mold.

  1. Place the clear acrylic layout template over your wood before cutting.
  2. Use the template to plan your layout, mark your cut lines, and decide which grain, live edge, or character features you want to include.
  3. Cut your wood to fit the mold and position it for your epoxy pour.
  4. Pour your epoxy project in the mold and allow it to fully cure based on the epoxy system you are using.
  5. Remove the cured project from the mold.
  6. Secure the layout template to the cured project using Template Tape.
  7. Use a flush trim router bit to trim the project to its final size.
  8. Sand and finish the board based on your project style and intended use.

Always make sure the template is secure before routing. Take light passes when needed, especially when trimming hardwood, epoxy, live edge material, or boards with changing grain direction.
