D4S Lumber is a very common material used to build solid wood furniture. The main difference is that it has been dressed on all 4 sides, hence where the D4S name comes from.
D4S lumber is ideal for smaller shops that may not have a jointer or a planer to dress lumber.
Most of our D4S lumber is flat sawn since it is the most commonly used by our own shop and our customers. We typically stock Walnut, Ash and White Oak but we are known to bring in small batches of other species as well.

Tips When Buying D4S lumber:
How do you calculate the price of d4S lumber?
D4S Lumber pricing is typically based on cost per Linear foot.
Calculating cost of the board is calculated by multiplying the boards Length (in feet) x Cost/Linear Foot.
How is the D4S lumber dried?
All of our D4S lumber has been kiln dried so it is ready to be used. It is important that the wood is dried properly so that the moisture content is between 6-10%. Properly dried wood is a lot less likely to split, crack and warp.
How much extra material should I buy to account for waste from machining?
As a general rule of thumb, you can count on using 10% more that the project needs. One of the benefits from purchasing D4S lumber is that you will save machining time and clean up time such as sweeping up dust and emptying dust collectors.
Note: all our lumber has been kiln dried and flattened
