Walrus oil

Walrus Oil provides food-safe finishes with a line of products that can be used on practically any wooden kitchen tool or woodworking project, including furniture.

Its mineral oil is enhanced with Vitamin E and can be used as a cutting board finish or as a lubricant for knives and food equipment. A pinch of the company’s wood wax will condition a cutting board and includes no additives that could cause yellowing of the finish.

We carry Walrus Oil "Cutting Board Oil", "Pure Mineral Oil", "Wood Wax" and "Vegan Wood Oil".

You can purchase Walrus Oil in store at our Mississauga location or via our online store.

Application:

1. Sand your workpiece up to 220 grit or higher. To prevent raised grain you can "water pop" (wet the board) after it's first sand, let it dry and then sand again at a higher grit.
2. Pour a small amount of Walrus Oil directly on the wood and begin working it into the wood with a rag or your hands with vinyl gloves on. Generally a little bit goes a long way.
3. After you apply Walrus Oil, let it dry for specified times below:
12 - 24 Hours - Cutting Board Oil or Pure Mineral Oil
24 - 48 Hours - Furniture Finish
15 Minutes - Wood Wax
4. Wipe or buff away any excess residue after drying period. Board may still be slightly damp to touch until fully cured.
5. Apply second coat if needed, but most projects should not require more than two coats of finish.

Care and Maintenance

Rubio Monocoat is a very durable finish that was originally designed for flooring applications. In the last 8 years or so, the furniture industry has adopted this finish as the go to finish for all hard wood projects. To maintain a furniture piece finished in Rubio Monocoat, we recommend using warm water or Rubio Monocoat Surface Care..
